I met Emy on a sunny Friday afternoon. She was waiting for me at the door of her home, and I was glad that she was feeling well. Our first contact was through Facebook, but this was our first-time face to face. We decided to meet in the afternoon because Emy had a previous commitment during the morning: she was fighting against cancer.

“Hi! I’m a 24-year-old mommy going through breast cancer.”
I am not sure what caught my attention from Emy’s Facebook post, but I can tell you what stroke me the most meeting her in person: she is young. Her eyes, her skin, her voice, everything about her radiates a youthful glow. If you see her walking on the street probably, you wouldn’t know that she is fighting an intruder that was meant to appear on older women according to her doctors. Perhaps you can't say that she is Ava's mom.
Emy became a mom a few weeks after ending her high school senior year. She still remembers how thoughtful their classmates and teachers were with her during that time. They helped her with the books, the homework, and the pregnancy. Just like now, she says, a lot of people has reached out to help. Her co-workers from the medical field, set up a crowdfunding account to help her with some expenses. Big companies have reached out as well and helped her get the treatment needed it to freeze her eggs for the future.

I wanted to help too

Inspired by Emy’s story I decided to help and designed a pair of rose gold earrings that looked beautiful on her, and I am sure they will look beautiful on any mom. With a minimalistic style and resembling the breast cancer awareness symbol, 40% of the proceeds of this pair of earrings will go directly to Emy to help her during this phase, because we know that life doesn’t stop.

Emy has a lot of plans for the future. She has a supportive boyfriend with whom she plans to start a family, she wants to finish nursing school and go back to work on the medical field. She is also planning to keep sharing her story and help raise awareness between young girls like her that may think that this only happens to older women.

As any young mother and woman, Emy is fueled by hope and love. Keep going Emy, we are full of hope and love too!
