Camila Toro is a young mom, an entrepreneur with the purpose to spread happiness in the world. In her store Happy Cami she shares tools and products to educate with a positive vision.
Macy: What is Happy Cami?
Camila: Happy Cami is an international brand that helps parents with emotional intelligence, positivity and mindset tools for their children.
We have a presence in the United States, Colombia, Ecuador and Australia.
Macy: Why do you decide to embark on this entrepreneurship?
Camila: Happy Cami has been around for as long as I can remember. It all started with some stickers of smiley faces that my grandfather gave me when I was 10 years old. He told me: "so you can give to others."
Since then, everywhere I went I had my stickers of smiley faces and I gave them to people. My stickers have accompanied me in all the important moments in my life such as birthdays, graduation, wedding, travels.
My grandpa is no longer in this earthly world, but without a doubt, this was one of the most important pieces of his legacy. Without knowing it, when he gave me that pack of smiley faces, it awakened in me a passion to give, inspire and share Happiness.
In all these years I have given more than 100,000 smiley faces stickers to my family, friends and strangers (and counting). I realized the power that this symbol of Happiness has but also the daily struggle that so many people have in the "pursuit of Happiness."
For some years now I have dedicated myself to study Happiness as a science, what makes people truly happy and understand how from my own passion I can help them with practical tools on that happy path that life is.
Macy: Where do you see Happy Cami in 10 years?
Camila: In 10 years, I see Happy Cami as an expert in the subjects of Happiness and positive psychology with an academic program for parents and educators that can be implemented in many schools around the world. There will also be a Happy Cami line of products in every Target store in US, that help parents to work with their children the subjects of gratitude, self-esteem, and Happiness.
Macy: How being a mom has influenced your work and career?
Camila: My goal has always been to share happiness, but only when I became a mom, I realized what an important piece today's children's education is missing. According to science, 50% of our happiness comes from our genes, 10% from life's circumstances and the remaining 40% from learned behaviors like our thoughts and choices and this large percentage is in OUR CONTROL!
I believe this 40% is where education plays a fundamental role, if we as parents educate ourselves with tools, strategies and if we manage to positively change our habits; we can also educate our children with a positive view of life.
Macy: What advice do you have for other entrepreneur moms?
Camila: I think is important to remember to “live one day at a time” and that we are MOTHERS AND ENTREPRENEURS; the first is the most essential job in the world that comes without instructions or training program, the latter is to fulfill personal goals and reach a professional level with our own enterprise. The important thing is to understand that, even if sometimes things don’t go as smooth and fast as we would like, living one day at a time with happiness in our hearts, we can advance in big leaps without even realizing it.
I talked with Camila about the challenges that as parents we face in order to feel happiness. Listen to an #emmemoment conversation about the science behind happiness.
